Sea Level Rise

A rise in sea level may have a significant impact on our built environment including underground infrastructure, shoreline development, and structures built on fill materials. Fill materials are materials used to artificially raise the level of the ground near bodies of water, such as in Benicia’s Downtown Historic District. In addition, the Benicia Industrial Park is particularly vulnerable to such impacts due to its shoreline location. The San Francisco Bay Conservation and Development Commission (BCDC) identified ports as being one of the most vulnerable sets of infrastructure in the region.
