Transportation comprises nearly one-third of total U.S. emissions and close to 40 percent of California emissions. In Benicia, it is the second largest contributor of greenhouse gas emissions, representing a little over four percent of the community’s total emissions. Transportation related emissions are linked to the mode of transportation (vehicle, bicycle, etc.), trip length, number of trips, efficiency of vehicles, and from land use and development patterns.
